In 2009, ACCESS-IT, following the success of the ACCESS-IT Awards Competition in 2008, offered a two day event on Accessibility and Assistive Technology on 22nd and 23rd September 2009 at Microsoft (UK), London. More than 200 delegates attended during the two days event.
More than 200 attendees and 19 finalist companies (from a total of 100 nominations from 24 countries) attended both days event with an aim to promote usable and affordable solutions that enhance the lives of people with disability and the elderly. Extrema Sistemas has been one of these finalists, nominated in the Web2.0 category due to its open source development framework Loom.
Accessible interfaces are easier to use and feel more natural. By supporting a wider range of use cases (shift-clicking, clicking bookmarks in the desktop, bookmarking any link in any web page) the behavior of web sites is more natural as they work more "like expected". The website should respond to user expectations, but appearance should not suffer in the process. Applications developed using Loom have an easier path to get Grade A, AA and AAA compliance certifications.
